Colorado Rockies game no. 112 thread: David Hess vs Kyle Freeland

It’s time for the series finale against the Fish, and the Rockies are looking to bust out the brooms.

It’s been a fun and exciting series against the Miami Marlins at home, with the starting pitching as good as ever and the offense catching fire. After a 7-4 victory over the Fish last night, one of baseball’s best teams at home in the Colorado Rockies are gunning to bust out the brooms for the series sweep.

The resurgent Kyle Freeland is on the mound for the Rockies in his second August start. His last time out, Freeland pitched five innings of two-run baseball on four hits with five strikeouts. He impressively finished the fifth inning after taking a scorching comebacker off his foot, but did not come back out for the sixth due to an abundance of caution. He’s been cleared to start this afternoon and is looking to continue the excellent pitching he’s been doing since the beginning of July.

It looks like today will be a bullpen day on the bump for Miami, with righty reliever David Hess kicking things off. In 16 23 innings across 12 appearances, Hess has an ERA of 4.32 with 15 strikeouts and 10 walks. He runs a three-pitch mix with a low-spin 95-97 MPH fastball, a slider, and a changeup. The Marlins will likely look to Hess to make it through two innings depending on his efficiency.
