Colorado Rockies game thread no. 143: Kyle Freeland vs Zack Wheeler

Road Rockies look for their fourth straight win

After winning on Thursday in dramatic fashion and putting the Philadelphia Phillies away convincingly on Friday night, the Colorado Rockies look to win three straight in Philadelphia.

Kyle Freeland (5-7, 4.69 ERA) gets the start for the Rockies coming off a disappointing outing against the San Francisco Giants. Before the game on September 6th, the Rockies had won six straight games in which Freeland was the starting pitcher.

Freeland has just three starts and eight innings pitched against the Phillies in his career. Over the course of those outings, Freeland has allowed three runs on seven hits to amass a 1-0 record and 3.38 ERA against Philadelphia.

For the Phillies, Zack Wheeler (12-9, 2.91 ERA) will take the mound as he looks to continue his strong 2021 campaign. Wheeler had some hiccups in August, putting up a 3-3 record and 4.81 ERA for the month. He rebounded in his first September start, however, throwing six scoreless innings against the Milwaukee Brewers and being credited with the win.

Against the Rockies in his career, Wheeler is 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA in two starts. In those games, Wheeler combined for 10 innings pitched, 16 hits, and 15 runs allowed (12 earned), The Rockies will look to continue with the hot bats from Friday evening and keep punishing Wheeler at the plate.
