After winning the first two games against the Philadelphia Phillies in style, the Colorado Rockies dropped game three 6-1 largely due to one bad inning. Today’s the rubber match, where the Rockies can spoil some of the Phillies’ playoff hopes and swipe a series win on the road as a favor to the other National League Wild Card teams.
Starting for the Rockies is rookie Ryan Feltner for his second big league game after debuting against the Braves a week ago. The 25-year old righty had a tough time against Atlanta, giving up a home run on his first major league pitch and surrendering six earned runs over 2 2⁄3 innings. A rebound here would do wonders for the confidence of a kid who’s only played one game above Double-A.
On the bump for the Phillies is talented right handed pitcher Aaron Nola. Nola is having a down year of sorts, with an ERA of 4.57 through 28 starts—his highest mark and first time over 4.00 since 2016. Don’t be fooled though, he’s still dangerous on the mound. Through 157 2⁄3 innings so far in 2021, Nola has amassed 192 total strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.13 while only walking 35 batters. Where he’s struggled is the long ball, giving up the second most home runs of his career with 23 and hopefully counting.
