Colorado Rockies game no. 60 thread: Frankie Montas vs. Ty Blach

Tonight, the Rockies will look to even their series with the Reds.

Tonight, the Colorado Rockies (21-38) will host Game 2 against the Cincinnati Reds (27-33) after taking an absolute drubbing in Monday’s opener (of which we will never speak again). The Rockies have gone 8-3 at Coors Field since May 9, having won each of their last three series at home.

Colorado has won or split every series vs. the Reds at Coors Field since 2017, going 13-7 in the match-up over that span. In addition, games between these two teams at Coors Field have averaged 12.2 total runs per game over that span, so it tends to be a very #Coors series.

Now to tonight’s game.

Starting for Cincinnati will be RHP Frankie Montas. He has a 4.60 ERA in 47.0 innings. He’s struck out 33 and walked 18 in addition to giving up 7 home runs.

In his last start on Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals, Montas suffered the 5-3 loss despite posting his third quality start of the season (6 IP, 6h, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 1 HB, 107 TP).

LHP Ty Blach will take the mound for the Rockies, making his sixth start of the season and his ninth overall appearance.

Blach has a 4.15 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched. He’s struck out 17, walked 7, and given up 3 home runs. He has made 6 appearances (3 starts) against Cincinnati in his career, going 0-1 with a 6.27 ERA (18.2 IP, 13 ER) in those outings

After this series concludes, the Rockies will embark on a seven-game road trip that includes stops in St. Louis and Minneapolis. Getting a series win here would help them gain some momentum before they head out on the road again.
